We skipped pickled herring and lutefisk

The lefse and lingonberries ordered from Minnesota will arrive in the coming days, sadly.

Hot spicy reindeer and wild boar sausage, smoked duck breast, salmon, olives, egg salad, cornichons and gherkins, "coarse" rye and pumpernickel bread, Gjetost, Ewephoria and Jarlsberg cheese, sweet beet and horseradish mustard, pickled beets, arugula, radish... eaten with plenty of sparkling wine.

Ellen Nicholas Appreciation lunch

Our neighbor Ellen was injured in July. She and I (Susan) have done much together in our neighborhood over the years. A retired art teacher, Ellen always says "yes" to help with events and improvement efforts. Her husband Nick, due to neurological impairment, stepped on the accelerator and could not release it. Their truck went off Locust Ave into the woods, hitting a tree and trapping Ellen, breaking bones on the right side of her body - knee, femur, etc. She had two surgeries and months in a rehab center. As she arrived home November 7th, we set up a Caringbridge site for friends and family to bring meals, visit, and drive her to medical appointments. More than 40 people helped - even people who did not know her. She is up and walking with a cane. To thank everyone who volunteered, we hosted a lunch on December 27th.
